Plan ahead for the school holidays!
11 August 2009
School holidays are looming and Werribee Open Range Zoo has some exciting new programs on offer for all students.
Get in before the rush and book one of the Zoo Explorers or Zoo Adventures programs that offer fun, educational and unforgettable behind-the-scenes activities.
For students who want to be the next David Attenborough, there is a new Zoologist for a Day program that offers hands-on experience on how to track and observe animals whilst learning all about the research process.
The Zoo Keeping for a Day program is back by popular demand, giving teenagers a real glimpse into a Keeper's day. They will go behind the scenes, help out with real Keeper tasks, and go on a Safari Tour with a difference.
For the younger students, there are two programs on offer: Beastly Behaviours and Endangered Faeces.
Beastly Behaviours will take budding Keepers on a journey behind the scenes with many of the large animals. They will discover how Keepers manage to keep the whole Zoo family happy and they will help out with animal enrichment and conditioning.
Endangered Faeces is all about poo and why it is important for animal carers to study faeces. Students will recycle rhino poo into paper and enjoy poo-themed cooking and games. Not smelly at all and lots of fun!
Also, these school holidays offer visitors the last chance to see the temporary winter exhibit, Smugglers Beware.
The indoor exhibit is an imaginative, fun and interactive display that focuses on the harmful wildlife smuggling trade. Doors close on October 4! Entry is included in the price of general admission.
Keeper for a Day gives you the chance to work in the zoo for the day, helping out our zookeepers and learning about one of the most rewarding jobs at a zoo!
