Dreamworld has awarded $28,930 to Zoos Victoria's conservation partner in Papua New Guinea to support critical field research on tree kangaroos.

The research is part of the Tenkile Conservation Program and will be undertaken by the Tenkile Conservation Alliance. This project's goal is to improve conservation management of the Torricelli Mountains through knowledge generated by research on the two tree kangaroos, ie. Scott's Tree Kangaroo or Tenkile, and the Golden-mantled Tree Kangaroo or Weimang. The project will:

1. Establish seven research sites within the distribution of Weimang.
2. Identify and train field research officers from the 21 Weimang villages.
3. Survey all 14 research sites - seven new Weimang sites and seven existing Tenkile sites.
4. Analyse and report on the data and its broader program implications.

Dreamworld, on Queensland's Gold Coast, is part of the Macquarie Leisure Trust Group and allocates significant funds to Australian and international conservation programs each year.
