Hamadryas Baboons are an active and dynamic species that have captivated the hearts and imaginations of Melbourne Zoo visitors since 1948.
Each baboon has a unique role to play within the family troop supported by a set of intricate social interactions. From their political group dynamics and interactions, to their vocalisations and physical features, baboons are geared towards these all-important alliances. The individual exchanges which support these relationships, are the key to a baboon’s quality of life.
Baboon Lookout at Melbourne Zoo will provide guests with an exciting new vantage point, adjacent to the existing giraffe/zebra/ostrich exhibit, to encounter the complex world of our baboon troop.
The purpose-built habitat will encourage a diverse range of natural social activity and provide outstanding opportunities for up-close and vista viewing, whilst creating an excellent facility for the baboons’ wellbeing.
Baboon Lookout is a $1.2m project that will revolutionise the way Melbournians experience baboons at Melbourne Zoo.
We invite you to join us in transforming this experience by making a tax deductible donation.
Your support will help us create an innovative, naturalistic new home for the Hamadryas Baboons, connecting families, school groups and international visitors with these remarkable primates and take one more significant step to becoming the world’s leading zoo-based conservation organisation.
